May is Foster Family Appreciation Month
The Foster Care Auxiliary thanks each family that is caring for a child in need. You are truly the hope and inspiration for these children who need someone to nurture and parent them. The gift of a loving family is the most generous and will never be forgotten.

MAY EVENTS |

Beach Walk at Crystal Cove Beach
In appreciation of foster families, if you are foster family or a supporter of foster families, please join my family and I along with the Orange County Hiking and Backpacking Club who will be guiding us on a Beach Walk at Crystal Cove Beach. This is a low and slow ‘go at your own pace’ walk on the sandy beautiful beach! Everyone will enjoy this walk with spectacular ocean views! It is okay to bring your baby in carrier packs, and your young children to enjoy this opportunity. You will have help to keep those hands held and help track the brave ones from wandering off. We’ll be able to enjoy the tide pools and sandy coves in addition to the coastal ‘Historic District’. There are forty-six 1920’s and 1930’s era coastal cottages nestled along the coastline which is one of the few remaining examples of early 20th century Southern California coastal development.
May 2, Saturday, 3pm
There is a $10 parking charge.
Let me know by April 29 if you will be coming and how many in your party. I will send you a flyer with more information when you rsvp. This is a beginning through advanced hike and there will be guides to walk at your pace, which can split up to accommodate our large group. Crystal Cove State Park has 3.5 miles of coastline. This long stretch of beach will take us past historic beach cottages, spectacular cliffs and an assortment of drift wood, seaweed, sea birds and tide pools. Bring your camera! (I am really looking forward to this! I hope to see you there.)
Watch your email inbox for our appreciation letter and invite to obtain tickets to the Museo!

CAMP TO BELONG |
 |
Camp To Belong
is a national organization whose motto is to give siblings the right to reunite. This organization is spreading throughout the US and beyond where sibling connections are enhanced at camp. This camp is specifically for children in foster care who have siblings they cannot currently live with. The Eddie Nash Foundation has partnered with Foster Care Auxiliary and we will be bringing Camp To Belong to Orange County this
July! Visit www.camptobelongoc.org to find out more! If you would like a camper application or information about Orangewood Children’s Trust Fund Grant’s which can provide costs for this camp, please contact us. If you know someone who would be interested in becoming a counselor for the camp, have them contact the Auxiliary.
Time is running out – spaces are limited!

Join us on Monday morning, May 4th, from 9am-11am for our support group and training. Two hours of training credit will be given and your member shopping can be done immediately following the meeting.

LOOKING FOR HELP ON A REGULAR BASIS |
 |
Help Wanted...
Would you like to offer a few hours on a weekly or monthly basis to help us out?
A licensed driver who is comfortable driving our truck is needed…no special license needed, as the size of the truck does not require this. Driver would pick the truck up at Orangewood Children’s Home and bring it to the store for us to unload and then take it back to Orangewood. We need someone on the 2nd and 5th Saturday, as well as every Tuesday. If you can do one or more of these days on a regular basis, please contact me.
Someone with a van who can do a large donation pick up in Torrance in the am every other Tuesday is needed. Volunteer would pick up donations and bring them to the center with the paperwork to unload on every other Tuesday in the late am. Please contact me if you are available for this on a regular basis.
Someone to set up our weekly silent auction is needed on Saturdays from 11:30-12:30. This volunteer would help finish out the auction at noon each Saturday, then set up the glass case in the front of the store for the next week. Please contact me if you are available to do this on a regular basis.
