FOSTER CARE AUXILIARY NEWSLETTER JULY 2011
WE ARE HIRING A VOLUNTEER!

Newsletter Help!
I have been writing the newsletter for some time now and realize that it has become a bit boring – although I still feel that it is necessary to get the news to you. I am deeply concerned with doing my best in all areas of the Auxiliary, and have to use the little time I am allotted each day (just 24 hours!) to divide among the most needed or most coveted activities. Somehow, the newsletter gets left until there is very little time left before the deadline of getting it to our newsletter web masters to publish and distribute. Is there a journalism student (high school & up) or just a person interested in getting the FCAOC news to our members and friends who would like to ‘spice it up’? I would love to share some great stories!

QUARTERLY MEETING IN LATE SEPTEMBER

More information to come soon about our Quarterly Meeting in late September

  • Youth (ages 13 and up) invited and focused on!
  • Please plan on attending
  • From Place To Place
We will be viewing portions of the film and hosting a discussion with interested foster parents and youth. The evening will also contain a financial education section presented by Wells Fargo Bank for youth and young adults as well as other resources available to our foster and former foster youth.

About the film: Despite being let down and left behind by America’s foster care system, From Place to Place follows plucky underdogs Mandy and Raif as they set out to change the system that raised them. What would you do without your family? What if you were all alone in the world?

The feature documentary From Place to Place tells the story of the invisible children who grow up in America’s foster care system.

Foster/Adoptive Parents Save!!

Savings for Foster/Adoptive Parents-
Check out the following ways to save $

Suggestions are from a variety of sources–I do not have personal knowledge of most:
1) Get the Sunday Register delivered for a year for only $5 – see above for flyer.

2) Take check received from County of Orange to Verizon Wireless to qualify for discount.
-Southern California Edison – visit their web site http://www.sce.com/residential/income-qualified/CAREFERA/care-fera-rate-programs.htm The Care Program -discount when a member of qualifying household is on medical.

3)
check your eligibility to receive tax credit or refund for past years including 2011 if you adopted children since 2003. Not all tax preparers are knowledgeable of this available credit – you might want to check it out yourself at www.nacac.org/taxcredit/taxcredit.html to see if you would benefit from revising a past tax return for this credit which could be thousands!

4)
Register at www.ifoster.org . After they check your foster/adoptive association (mention you are with Foster Care Auxiliary of Orange County) you will be given a login and password where you can save on various items from grocery’s to movie tickets and computer items. The iFoster marketplace leverages the community’s purchasing power to negotiate discounts and stretch limited funds farther.

Do you have any to add?
