FOSTER CARE AUXILIARY NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2006
Board Member Focus

Jerry Looker, Truck Maintenance and Coordinator.

Jerry makes sure our regular donations are picked up and delivered and keeps our truck in proper working order.  This is no small feat since our truck is rather old and needs to be babied along and treated with the same consideration that we give our colicky newborns which he has plenty of experience with.

"Twenty-two years ago, Jacki asked me about foster care…I said okay but we are not going to adopt because we have survived our own four teenagers.  I didn’t want to go to a new child’s graduation in a walker or wheel chair.  We were initially long term with our second and third babies (twin girls) staying with us nearly two years.  They are now twenty and we still keep in touch.  We then became ESH and have had, we think, over 300 babies.  What a joy it has been.  Our two best friends adopted our babies and we have kept in touch with many adoptive parents over the years.  Next fall, we hope to go to New Hampshire to visit with one of our favorites.
Working with the Auxiliary has been a special treat.  Coming closer to many unselfish people who make it all work has been wonderful.  As in any organization, the people make it a success and we are blessed with those who give of themselves on an ongoing basis.
"

President's Letter

I feel that 2007 will be a very special year for the Foster Care Auxiliary.  The changes are occuring already and are being made possible by your generous board, fellow members and communtiy members.  We all care deeply about foster children and their foster families and want to offer the best services possible for making a difference in your foster children’s lives and making their holidays special.  As I work through the first holidays without my oldest son, I encourage each of you to hold dear to those you love and savor each special moment.

Kathy Harvey, President

National speaker
National speaker, author and Orange County Register Columnist, Sandy Spurgeon McDaniel at our quarterly meeting on November 17, 2006.
Sandy was a wonderful speaker- not only did she have valuable information and shared many of her child rearing tools with us, but she kept us laughing with stories that we all can identify with.  Everyone went home from the meeting with stuffed animals from the Auxiliary.  If you didn’t get to attend the meeting you can still benefit from Sandy’s expertise at www.parentingsos.com.
California State Care Providers Association
FCAOC is now Chapter Charter 30 of the California State Care Providers Association who has members representing foster care issues in legislation.  Members of the Auxiliary may join this State organization for a fee of $10.  Visit the web site www.fosterparents.com to find information.

Foster Care Auxiliary Can Make Money-Here's How!

Please make www.GoodSearch.com your home page.
What if Foster Care Auxiliary of Orange County earned a penny every time you searched the internet?  Well, now we can! GoodSearch.com is a new search engine that donates half its revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate.  You use it just as you would any search engine, and it’s powered by Yahoo!, so you get great results.  Just go to www.goodsearch.com and be sure to enter Foster Care Auxiliary of Orange County as the charity you want to support.  Just 500 of us searching four times a day will raise about $7300 in a year without anyone spending a dime!  And, be sure to spread the word!

Your Space!

This is your space…what would you like to share with other foster parents?  What are your needs and what do you have to offer?
